A boy belonging to a poor family cut off the ear of a boy belonging to a wealthy family. The poor family came to the Prophet ﷺ and said, "Messenger of Allah, we are poor people."He did not impose any compensation on them.
حدثنا أحمد بن حنبل حدثنا معاذ بن هشام حدثني أبي عن قتادة عن أبي نضرة
أن غلاما لأناس فقراء قطع أذن غلام لأناس أغنياء فأتى أهله النبي ﷺ فقالوا يا رسول الله إنا أناس فقراء فلم يجعل عليه شيئا
[Its chain of transmission is daif]. Nasai narrated it in Qasama, chapter on the dropping of retaliation between slaves for injuries short of killing, hadith no. 4755, from the hadith of Muaz bin Hisham with this wording, and it is also in Musnad Ahmad, 4/438. Qatada narrated with an ana (using "an" rather than a direct assertion of hearing).
