A man who had been drinking wine was brought to the Prophet ﷺ while he was at Hunayn. The Prophet ﷺ threw dust in his face, then ordered his companions, who struck him with their sandals and whatever they had in their hands, until he told them, "Stop." So they stopped.After the Messenger of Allah ﷺ passed away, Abu Bakr flogged for wine-drinking with forty lashes. Umar likewise flogged with forty in the early part of his rule, then with eighty toward the end of his caliphate. Uthman applied both penalties, eighty and forty. Then Muawiya fixed the punishment at eighty.
حدثنا ابن السرح قال وجدت في كتاب خالي عبد الرحمن بن عبد الحميد عن عقيل عن ابن شهاب أخبره أن
أتي النبي ﷺ بشارب وهو بحنين فحثى في وجهه التراب ثم أمر أصحابه فضربوه بنعالهم وما كان في أيديهم حتى قال لهم ارفعوا فرفعوا فتوفي رسول الله ﷺ ثم جلد أبو بكر في الخمر أربعين ثم جلد عمر أربعين صدرا من إمارته ثم جلد ثمانين في آخر خلافته ثم جلد عثمان الحدين كليهما ثمانين وأربعين ثم أثبت معاوية الحد ثمانين
