Anas bin Malik reported,

The Prophet ﷺ flogged for drinking wine using palm branches and sandals, and Abu Bakr flogged forty lashes. When Umar took charge, he summoned the people and said to them, "The people have settled close to the fertile lands." Musaddad said, "the villages and fertile lands. What is your view regarding the punishment for wine?"Abdul-Rahman bin Awf said to him, "We think you should make it like the lightest of the prescribed punishments."So he flogged eighty lashes for it.

أن النبي ﷺ جلد في الخمر بالجريد والنعال وجلد أبو بكر رضي الله عنه أربعين فلما ولي عمر دعا الناس فقال لهم إن الناس قد دنوا من الريف وقال مسدد من القرى والريف فما ترون في حد الخمر فقال له عبد الرحمن بن عوف نرى أن تجعله كأخف الحدود فجلد فيه ثمانين
