Hudayn bin Munzir reported,

He is Abu Sasan. He said, "I was present with Uthman bin Affan when Walid bin Uqba was brought before him. Humran and another man testified against him. One testified that he saw him drink it, meaning wine, and the other testified that he saw him vomit it. Uthman said, 'He would not have vomited it had he not drunk it.'Then he said to Ali , 'Carry out the prescribed punishment on him.'Ali said to Hasan, 'Carry out the prescribed punishment on him.'Hasan replied, 'Let the one who enjoys its sweetness handle its bitterness.'So Ali said to Abdullah bin Jafar, 'Carry out the prescribed punishment on him.'He took the whip and lashed him while Ali counted. When he reached forty, Ali said, 'That is enough. The Prophet ﷺ gave forty lashes,' and I believe he said, 'and Abu Bakr gave forty, and Umar gave eighty. All of it is sunnah, but this is more beloved to me.'"

هو أبو ساسان قال شهدت عثمان بن عفان وأتي بالوليد بن عقبة فشهد عليه حمران ورجل آخر فشهد أحدهما أنه رآه شربها يعني الخمر وشهد الآخر أنه رآه يتقيأ فقال عثمان إنه لم يتقيأ حتى شربها فقال لعلي رضي الله عنه أقم عليه الحد فقال علي للحسن أقم عليه الحد فقال الحسن ول حارها من تولى قارها فقال علي لعبد الله بن جعفر أقم عليه الحد قال فأخذ السوط فجلده وعلي يعد فلما بلغ أربعين قال حسبك جلد النبي ﷺ أربعين أحسبه قال وجلد أبو بكر أربعين وعمر ثمانين وكل سنة وهذا أحب إلي
