The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Before the Hour there will be tribulations like patches of dark night. A man will be a believer in the morning and a disbeliever by evening, or a believer in the evening and a disbeliever by morning. The one sitting during them will be better than the one standing, and the one walking will be better than the one rushing. So break your bows, cut your bowstrings, and strike your swords against stones. If anyone enters upon one of you, let him be like the better of the two sons of Adam."
حدثنا مسدد حدثنا عبد الوارث بن سعيد عن محمد بن جحادة عن عبد الرحمن بن ثروان عن هزيل
قال رسول الله ﷺ إن بين يدي الساعة فتنا كقطع الليل المظلم يصبح الرجل فيها مؤمنا ويمسي كافرا ويمسي مؤمنا ويصبح كافرا القاعد فيها خير من القائم والماشي فيها خير من الساعي فكسروا قسيكم وقطعوا أوتاركم واضربوا سيوفكم بالحجارة فإن دخل يعني على أحد منكم فليكن كخير ابني آدم
[Its isnad is hasan] Ibn Majah reported it in al-Fitan, chapter on being cautious during turmoil, no. 3961, from the hadith of Abdul-Warith through this route, and Tirmidhi declared it hasan, no. 2204.
