During the year he performed the pilgrimage, while he was on the pulpit, he took hold of a lock of hair that was in the hand of a guard and said, "People of Medina, where are your scholars? I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbid the like of this, saying, 'The Children of Israil were destroyed only when their women began using such things.'"
حدثنا عبد الله بن مسلمة عن مالك عن ابن شهاب عن حميد بن عبد الرحمن أنه سمع
عام حج وهو على المنبر وتناول قصة من شعر كانت في يد حرسي يقول يا أهل المدينة أين علماؤكم سمعت رسول الله ﷺ ينهى عن مثل هذه ويقول إنما هلكت بنو إسرائيل حين اتخذ هذه نساؤهم
Bukhari narrated it in the Book of the Prophets, in the chapter following the chapter on the hadith of the cave, no. 3468, from Abdullah Qanabi, and Muslim narrated it in the Book of Clothing, in the chapter on the prohibition of hair extensions and those who perform them, etc., no. 2127, both from the hadith of Malik through this same chain, and it is found in the Muwatta (Yahya's recension), 2/947.
