A woman gestured from behind a curtain, holding out a letter to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. The Prophet ﷺ withdrew his hand and said, "I do not know whether this is a man's hand or a woman's hand."She replied, "It is a woman's hand."He said, "If you were truly a woman, you would have changed the color of your nails," meaning with henna.

أومت امرأة من وراء ستر بيدها كتاب إلى رسول الله ﷺ فقبض النبي ﷺ يده فقال ما أدري أيد رجل أم يد امرأة قالت بل امرأة قال لو كنت امرأة لغيرت أظفارك يعني بالحناء
[Its chain of transmission is daif] Nasai narrated it in Zinah, chapter on dye for women, no. 5092, from the hadith of Mutee bin Maymun, and he is layyin al-hadith (Taqrib), and Safiyyah bint Isma is unknown (also). Ahmad said in al-Ilal, "This hadith is munkar" (Talkhis Habir: 2/237).
