A man from Banu Sulaym reported that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ came to Ubayy and stayed with him as a guest. Ubayy brought him food, and he mentioned a dish of hays that was presented to him. Then he brought him a drink, which he drank and then passed to the person on his right. He also ate dates, tossing the pits onto the back of his two fingers, the index and the middle. When he rose to leave, Ubayy stood up and took hold of the bridle of his mount and said, "Pray to Allah for me."He said, "O Allah, bless them in what You have provided for them, forgive them, and have mercy on them."
Muslim narrated it in the Book of Drinks, in the chapter on the desirability of placing pits outside dates, etc., hadith no. 2042, from the hadith of Shubah, through the same chain.
