The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "I am only a human being, and you bring your disputes to me. Perhaps one of you is more eloquent in presenting his argument than another, so I rule in his favor based on what I hear from him. Whoever I rule in favor of, granting him something that belongs to his brother, let him not take it, for I am only cutting out for him a piece of the Fire."
حدثنا محمد بن كثير أخبرنا سفيان عن هشام بن عروة عن عروة عن زينب بنت أم سلمة
قال رسول الله ﷺ إنما أنا بشر وإنكم تختصمون إلي ولعل بعضكم أن يكون ألحن بحجته من بعض فأقضي له على نحو ما أسمع منه فمن قضيت له من حق أخيه بشيء فلا يأخذ منه شيئا فإنما أقطع له قطعة من النار
Bukhari narrated it in the Book of Tricks, chapter 10, hadith 6967, from Muhammad bin Kathir, and Muslim narrated it in the Book of Judgments, chapter on judging by outward appearances and arguments presented, hadith 1713, from the hadith of Hisham bin Urwa, through this same chain.
