We used to lease land in exchange for the crops that grew along the irrigation channels and whatever portion was watered and thrived from it. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade us from doing that and instructed us to lease it for gold or silver instead.

[Its isnad is daif]. Nasai narrated it in Muzaraa, the chapter on the various narrations regarding the prohibition of renting land for a third or a quarter, etc., no. 3925, from the hadith of Ibrahim bin Saad with the same wording. It has corroborating narrations, see no. 3395.Muhammad bin Ikrima bin Abdul-Rahman was not deemed reliable by anyone except Ibn Hibban, and no. -
