The Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade the sale of dates for dates, but granted a concession in the case of araya, allowing them to be sold by estimation so that their owners could eat them as fresh ripe dates.
Bukhari narrated it in the Book of Sales, in the chapter on selling fruit on the palm trees for gold or silver, hadith no. 2191, and Muslim narrated it in the Book of Sales, in the chapter on the prohibition of selling fresh dates for dried dates except in the case of araya, hadith no. 1540, from the hadith of Sufyan bin Uyayna, with the same chain.
