The Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent Usayd bin Hudayr along with several others to search for a necklace that Ayesha had lost. The time for prayer arrived, so they prayed without performing ablution. They came to the Prophet ﷺ and told him what had happened, and the verse of tayammum was revealed.Ibn Nufayl added that Usayd bin Hudayr said to her, "May Allah have mercy on you. Never has anything happened to you that you disliked except that Allah made it a way out for the Muslims and for you."
حدثنا عبد الله بن محمد النفيلي أخبرنا أبو معاوية ح و حدثنا عثمان بن أبي شيبة أخبرنا عبدة المعنى واحد عن هشام بن عروة عن أبيه
بعث رسول الله ﷺ أسيد بن حضير وأناسا معه في طلب قلادة أضلتها عائشة فحضرت الصلاة فصلوا بغير وضوء فأتوا النبي ﷺ فذكروا ذلك له فأنزلت آية التيمم زاد ابن نفيل فقال لها أسيد بن حضير يرحمك الله ما نزل بك أمر تكرهينه إلا جعل الله للمسلمين ولك فيه فرجا
Bukhari narrated it in the book of tayammum, chapter, "If he finds neither water nor earth," hadith 336, and Muslim in the book of menstruation, chapter on tayammum, hadith 367, both from the hadith of Hisham bin Urwa through the same chain.
