When Zayd bin Haritha, Jafar, and Abdullah bin Rawaha were killed, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ sat in the mosque with grief visible on his face. The story was then mentioned.

لما قتل زيد بن حارثة وجعفر وعبد الله بن رواحة جلس رسول الله ﷺ في المسجد يعرف في وجهه الحزن وذكر القصة
Bukhari transmitted it in the Book of Funerals, chapter on the prohibition of wailing and crying and the warning against that, hadith no. 1305, and Muslim in the Book of Funerals, chapter on the severity regarding wailing, hadith no. 935, from the hadith of Yahya bin Saeed Ansari, with the same chain.
