Sakhr reported that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ launched a military campaign against Thakeef. When Sakhr heard of this, he rode out with a contingent of cavalry to support the Prophet ﷺ, but he found that the Prophet of Allah ﷺ had already withdrawn without conquering them.So Sakhr made a covenant with Allah and gave his solemn pledge that he would not leave the fortress until its occupants surrendered to the judgment of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. He did not leave them until they came down and submitted to the judgment of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.Sakhr then wrote to him, "To proceed, Messenger of Allah, Thakeef has surrendered to your judgment, and I am heading toward them with cavalry."The Messenger of Allah ﷺ ordered that the call for congregational prayer be given, and he supplicated for Ahmas ten times, saying, "O Allah, bless Ahmas in its horses and its men."The people came to him, and Mughira bin Shuba spoke up, saying, "Prophet of Allah, Sakhr has taken my aunt captive, and she had entered into what the Muslims have entered into."So he summoned Sakhr and said, "Sakhr, when a people accept Islam, their lives and property become protected. So hand over Mughira's aunt to him." And he handed her over to him.The Prophet of Allah ﷺ then asked about the Banu Sulaym, why they had fled from Islam and abandoned that watering place.Sakhr said, "Prophet of Allah, grant it to me and my people."He said, "Yes," and granted it to him. Then the Sulaymis accepted Islam and came to Sakhr, asking him to hand over the water to them, but he refused. So they came to the Prophet ﷺ and said, "Prophet of Allah, we have accepted Islam and went to Sakhr to hand over our water to us, but he refused us."So he came to him and said, "Sakhr, when a people accept Islam, their property and lives become protected. So hand over to the people their water."Sakhr said, "Yes, Prophet of Allah."I saw the face of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ turn red at that moment out of embarrassment for having taken the slave girl from him and having taken the water from him.
