Some of the companions of the Prophet ﷺ reported that the disbelievers of Quraysh wrote to Ibn Ubayy and the idol-worshippers among the Aws and Khazraj who were with him, while the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was at that time in Medina, before the Battle of Badr. They wrote, "You have given refuge to our man. We swear by Allah that you must fight him or expel him, or we will march against you in full force until we kill your fighters and take your women as captives."When this message reached Abdullah bin Ubayy and the idol-worshippers with him, they gathered to fight the Prophet ﷺ. When news of this reached the Prophet ﷺ, he met them and said, "The threat of Quraysh has reached its full effect upon you. They could not have plotted against you more than what you yourselves intend to do. You wish to fight your own sons and brothers."When they heard this from the Prophet ﷺ, they dispersed. News of this reached the disbelievers of Quraysh, so after the Battle of Badr, the disbelievers of Quraysh wrote to the Jews, "You are people of weapons and fortresses. You must fight our man, or we shall do such and such, and nothing will stand between us and the anklets of your women," meaning the khalakhil. When their letter reached the Prophet ﷺ, Banu an-Nadir resolved upon treachery. They sent word to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, "Come out to meet us with thirty of your companions, and thirty of our rabbis will come out, until we meet at a midway place. Let them hear from you, and if they believe you and have faith in you, we will believe in you." He related their story. The next day, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ went out to them with his battalions and besieged them. He said to them, "By Allah, you will have no security with me except through a covenant you make with me." They refused to give him any covenant, so he fought them that day.The following day he went out with his battalions against Banu Qurayzah, leaving Banu an-Nadir, and called them to make a covenant with him. They made a covenant with him, so he turned away from them. Then he went out against Banu an-Nadir with his battalions and fought them until they accepted exile. So Banu an-Nadir went into exile and carried with them whatever their camels could bear of their belongings, the doors of their houses, and the wood of them. The palm groves of Banu an-Nadir belonged exclusively to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. Allah granted them to him and singled him out with them. Allah said, "And what Allah restored to His Messenger from them, you did not spur for it any horses or camels" [Hashr 59:6], meaning without fighting. The Prophet ﷺ gave most of it to the Muhajirun and distributed it among them. He also allotted some of it to two men from the Ansar who were in need. He did not allot any of it to any of the Ansar besides those two. What remained of it became the charitable endowment of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, which is in the hands of the descendants of Fatimah .
