He asked, "Messenger of Allah, one of us shoots at game, then tracks it for two or three days, and finally finds it dead with his arrow still in it. May he eat from it?"He replied, "Yes, if he wishes," or he said, "He may eat it if he wishes."

أنه قال يا رسول الله أحدنا يرمي الصيد فيقتفي أثره اليومين والثلاثة ثم يجده ميتا وفيه سهمه أيأكل قال نعم إن شاء أو قال يأكل إن شاء
[Sahih]. Bukhari mentioned it as a suspended hadith in Chapter of Slaughtered Animals and Hunting, section on game when it has been out of sight for two or three days, no. 5485, on the authority of Abdul-Ala, with this wording. See also the following hadith.
