Two things I heard from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. Allah has prescribed excellence in all things. So when you kill, kill well, and when you slaughter, slaughter well. Let each of you sharpen his blade and spare the animal he slaughters any suffering.Someone other than Muslim narrated it with the wording, "So make the killing good."
حدثنا مسلم بن إبراهيم حدثنا شعبة عن خالد الحذاء عن أبي قلابة عن أبي الأشعث
خصلتان سمعتهما من رسول الله ﷺ إن الله كتب الإحسان على كل شيء فإذا قتلتم فأحسنوا قال غير مسلم يقول فأحسنوا القتلة وإذا ذبحتم فأحسنوا الذبح وليحد أحدكم شفرته وليرح ذبيحته
Muslim narrated it in the Book of Hunting and Slaughtered Animals, Chapter on the Command to Perform Slaughter and Killing Well and to Sharpen the Blade, no. 1955, from the hadith of Shubah, through this route.
