I came upon Abu Jahl as he lay fallen, his leg having been struck. I said, "Enemy of Allah, Abu Jahl, Allah has disgraced the wretch."At that moment I had no fear of him.He replied, "Beyond a man whom his own people have killed?"I struck him with a blunt sword, but it accomplished nothing, until his own sword fell from his hand. I then struck him with it until he grew cold.

[Its chain of transmission is daif] Ahmad recorded it: 403/1, and Nasai in al-Kubra, no. 8670, from the hadith of Subayi, in this wording. The hadith has corroborating narrations in Bukhari, no. 3961-3963, Muslim, no. 1800, and Nasai's al-Kubra, no. 6004, and others.Abu Ishaq Sabi used ambiguous transmission wording (anana), but the hadith of Bukhari makes it unnecessary.
