One of the companions of the Prophet ﷺ died on the day of Khaybar, and they mentioned this to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.He said, "Pray over your companion."The people's faces changed at this, so he said, "Your companion stole from the spoils in the path of Allah." We then searched his belongings and found some beads from the beads of the Jews, not worth even two dirhams.
Its isnad is hasan. Nasai (Funerals, chapter on praying over one who was washed, no. 1961) and Ibn Majah (no. 2848) reported it from the hadith of Yahya Qattan, through this route. Ibn Jarud graded it sahih (no. 1081), as did Ibn Hibban (al-Ihsan, no. 4833), and Hakim graded it as meeting the standard of the two Shaykhs (2/127), and Dhahabi agreed with him.Abu Amrah Ansari, his hadith does not fall below the level of hasan.
