This is his exact wording, that he heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, "Do not clip the forelocks of horses, nor their manes, nor their tails, for their tails are their fly-swatters, their manes are their warmth, and goodness is tied to their forelocks."
حدثنا أبو توبة عن الهيثم بن حميد ح و حدثنا خشيش بن أصرم حدثنا أبو عاصم جميعا عن ثور بن يزيد عن نصر الكناني عن رجل وقال أبو توبة عن ثور بن يزيد عن شيخ من بني سليم
وهذا لفظه أنه سمع رسول الله ﷺ يقول لا تقصوا نواصي الخيل ولا معارفها ولا أذنابها فإن أذنابها مذابها ومعارفها دفاؤها ونواصيها معقود فيها الخير
