A man came to the Prophet ﷺ and said, "Messenger of Allah, shall I go out for jihad?"He asked, "Are your parents living?"The man replied, "Yes."He said, "Then strive in serving them."
حدثنا محمد بن كثير أخبرنا سفيان عن حبيب بن أبي ثابت عن أبي العباس
جاء رجل إلى النبي ﷺ فقال يا رسول الله أجاهد قال ألك أبوان قال نعم قال ففيهما فجاهد
Bukhari narrated it in the Book of Jihad and Expeditions, Chapter on Jihad with the Permission of One's Parents, no. 3004, and Muslim narrated it in the Book of Devotion and Kindness to Relatives, Chapter on Kindness to Parents and Which of Them Has More Right to It, no. 2549, from the hadith of Sufyan Thawri through this same chain.
