The Messenger of Allah ﷺ designated as a protected sanctuary every direction around Madinah for the distance of a barid. Its trees were not to be beaten down for leaves nor cut, except for what was needed to drive a camel.

Sourcing, [its chain of transmission is daif] Tabarani narrated it in Kabir, 17/111, no. 272, from the hadith of Zayd bin Hubab, with the same chain. Sulayman bin Kinanah is majhul al-hal (of unknown status), and Abdullah bin Abu Sufyan is likewise so.
