Marwan's messenger, whom he had sent to Umm Maqil, informed me that she said, "Abu Maqil was on Hajj with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. When he returned, I told him, 'You know that I have a Hajj due upon me.'"So the two of them set out walking until they entered upon the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. She said, "Messenger of Allah, I have a Hajj due upon me, and Abu Maqil has a young camel."Abu Maqil said, "She speaks the truth. I have dedicated it for the cause of Allah."The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Give it to her so she may perform Hajj on it, for that is in the cause of Allah."So he gave her the young camel. Then she said, "Messenger of Allah, I am an old, frail woman. Is there any deed that would suffice for me in place of my Hajj?"He replied, "An Umrah in Ramadan suffices as a Hajj."

أخبرني رسول مروان الذي أرسل إلى أم معقل قالت كان أبو معقل حاجا مع رسول الله ﷺ فلما قدم قالت أم معقل قد علمت أن علي حجة فانطلقا يمشيان حتى دخلا عليه فقالت يا رسول الله إن علي حجة وإن لأبي معقل بكرا قال أبو معقل صدقت جعلته في سبيل الله فقال رسول الله ﷺ أعطها فلتحج عليه فإنه في سبيل الله فأعطاها البكر فقالت يا رسول الله إني امرأة قد كبرت وسقمت فهل من عمل يجزئ عني من حجتي قال عمرة في رمضان تجزئ حجة
Sourcing, [its chain of transmission is daif]. Ahmad recorded it, 6/375, from the hadith of Abu Awana, and Nasai in his Sunan al-Kubra, no. 4227, from the hadith of Abu Bakr bin Abdul-Rahman with the same wording.* The messenger of Marwan is unknown to me. The basis of the hadith is sahih, narrated by Ahmad, 6/406, with a hasan chain of transmission, "An umrah performed during the month of Ramadan is equivalent to a hajj."
