Abdullah bin Harith reported,

Harith was Uthman's deputy over Taif, and he prepared a meal for Uthman that included partridge, sandgrouse, and the meat of wild game. He sent for Ali bin Abu Talib, and the messenger came to him while he was beating leaves off branches for his camels. Ali came while still shaking the leaf-dust from his hand.They said to him, "Eat."He replied, "Feed it to people who are not in a state of consecration, for I am in ihram."Then Ali said, "I adjure by Allah anyone here from Ashja, do you know that a man once gifted the Messenger of Allah ﷺ a wild donkey while he was in ihram, and he refused to eat it?"They said, "Yes."

حدثنا محمد بن كثير حدثنا سليمان بن كثير عن حميد الطويل

عن إسحق بن عبد الله بن الحارث عن أبيه

وكان الحارث خليفة عثمان على الطائف فصنع لعثمان طعاما فيه من الحجل واليعاقيب ولحم الوحش قال فبعث إلى علي بن أبي طالب فجاءه الرسول ﷺ وهو يخبط لأباعر له فجاءه وهو ينفض الخبط عن يده فقالوا له كل فقال أطعموه قوما حلالا فأنا حرم فقال علي رضي الله عنه أنشد الله من كان ها هنا من أشجع أتعلمون أن رسول الله ﷺ أهدى إليه رجل حمار وحش وهو محرم فأبى أن يأكله قالوا نعم
