In his hadith, Hafs reported that a man from Banu Amir said, "Messenger of Allah, my father is a very old man who cannot perform Hajj or Umrah, nor can he travel."He replied, "Perform Hajj on behalf of your father, and Umrah as well."
حدثنا حفص بن عمر ومسلم بن إبراهيم بمعناه قالا حدثنا شعبة عن النعمان بن سالم عن عمرو بن أوس
حفص في حديثه رجل من بني عامر أنه قال يا رسول الله إن أبي شيخ كبير لا يستطيع الحج ولا العمرة ولا الظعن قال احجج عن أبيك واعتمر
[Its isnad is sahih] Tirmidhi related it in the Book of Hajj, chapter on the same, no. 930, and Nasai, no. 2622, and Ibn Majah, no. 2906, from the hadith of Shubah through this route. Ibn Khuzayma graded it sahih, no. 3040, as did Ibn Hibban, no. 961, and Hakim on the criterion of the two Shaykhs, 1/481, and Dhahabi agreed with him. Tirmidhi said, hasan sahih.
