The Prophet ﷺ heard a man saying, "Here I am at Your service on behalf of Shubrumah."The Prophet ﷺ asked, "Who is Shubrumah?"The man replied, "A brother of mine," or "A relative of mine."The Prophet ﷺ asked, "Have you performed Hajj for yourself?"He answered, "No."The Prophet ﷺ said, "Perform Hajj for yourself first, then perform Hajj on behalf of Shubrumah."
[Its chain of transmission is daif] Ibn Majah also narrated it in the Book of Hajj Rites, chapter on Hajj on behalf of the deceased, hadith no. 2903, from the hadith of Abda with the same wording. Ibn Khuzayma graded it sahih, hadith no. 3039, as did Ibn Hibban, hadith no. 962, and Bayhaqi, 4/336, and Ibn Mulaqqin in Tuhfat al-Muhtaj, corroborating reports no. 1056. Qatada narrated with "an" (an indicator of possible discontinuity in the chain), and the hadith has daif corroborating reports.
