We set out with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ thinking only that it was for hajj. When we arrived, we performed tawaf around the House. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ then ordered those who had not brought sacrificial animals to exit the state of ihram, so those who had not brought sacrificial animals exited ihram.
حدثنا عثمان بن أبي شيبة حدثنا جرير عن منصور عن إبراهيم عن الأسود
خرجنا مع رسول الله ﷺ ولا نرى إلا أنه الحج فلما قدمنا تطوفنا بالبيت فأمر رسول الله ﷺ من لم يكن ساق الهدي أن يحل فأحل من لم يكن ساق الهدي
Bukhari narrated it in the book of Hajj, chapter on tamattu, qiran, and ifrad in Hajj, etc., hadith no. 1561, from Uthman bin Abu Shayba. Muslim also narrated it in the book of Hajj, chapter explaining the ways of entering ihram, etc., hadith no. 128/1211, from the hadith of Jareer bin Abdul-Hameed, through this same chain.
