The Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent him with sacrificial animals and instructed him, "If any of them is about to perish, slaughter it, dip its sandal in its blood, then leave it for the people."
حدثنا محمد بن كثير أخبرنا سفيان عن هشام عن أبيه
أن رسول الله ﷺ بعث معه بهدي فقال إن عطب منها شيء فانحره ثم اصبغ نعله في دمه ثم خل بينه وبين الناس
[Sahih]. Narrated by Tirmidhi in the Hajj chapters, chapter on what should be done if the sacrificial animal is disabled, no. 910, and Ibn Majah, no. 3106, from the hadith of Hisham bin Urwa, with this wording. Ibn Khuzayma graded it sahih, no. 2577, as did Ibn Hibban, no. 976, and Hakim, according to the criteria of the two Shaykhs, 1/447, and Dhahabi agreed with him. Tirmidhi said, "Hasan sahih."
