The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Hands are of three kinds. The hand of Allah is the highest, the hand of the giver comes next, and the hand of the beggar is the lowest. So give what is surplus, and do not fall short in caring for yourself."
[Its isnad is sahih]. Bayhaqi reported it, 4/198, from the hadith of Ubayda bin Humayd, through this route. It is also in Musnad Ahmad, 3/473. Ibn Khuzayma graded it sahih, hadith no. 2440, as did Ibn Hibban, hadith no. 809, and Hakim, 1/408, and Dhahabi agreed with him.
