The Prophet ﷺ sent a man from Banu Makhzum to collect the charity. He said to Abu Rafi, "Accompany me, for you will get a share of it."Abu Rafi replied, "Not until I go to the Prophet ﷺ and ask him."So he went to him and asked, and the Prophet ﷺ said, "The freed slave of a people is one of them, and charity is not lawful for us."

[Sahih]. Reported by Tirmidhi, Zakat, chapter on the disapproval of charity for the Prophet ﷺ and his household and his freed servants, no. 657, and Nasai, no. 2613, from the hadith of Shubah through this route.
