Abdullah said, "People later considered half a saa of wheat to be the equivalent."He said, Abdullah used to give dates, but one year the people of Madinah ran short of dates, so he gave barley instead.

قال عبد الله فعدل الناس بعد نصف صاع من بر قال وكان عبد الله يعطي التمر فأعوز أهل المدينة التمر عاما فأعطى الشعير
Bukhari narrated it in the Book of Zakat, Chapter: Zakat al-Fitr on the free person and the slave, no. 1511, from the hadith of Hammad bin Zayd. And Muslim narrated it in the Book of Zakat, Chapter: Zakat al-Fitr on Muslims from dates and barley, no. 984, from the hadith of Ayub Sakhtiyani, through him.
