The Prophet ﷺ sent me out as a collector of zakat. I came upon a man, and when he gathered his wealth for me, I found that nothing was due from him except a one-year-old female camel.I said to him, "Hand over a one-year-old female camel, for that is your zakat."He replied, "That is an animal with no milk and unfit for riding. But here is a young, large, fat she-camel. Take her instead."I said to him, "I cannot take what I have not been instructed to take. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ is near you. If you wish to go to him and offer him what you have offered me, then do so. If he accepts it from you, I will accept it. If he rejects it, I will return it."He said, "Then I will do just that."So he set out with me, taking along the she-camel he had offered me, until we came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.He said to him, "Prophet of Allah, your messenger came to me to collect the zakat due on my wealth. By Allah, never before has the Messenger of Allah ﷺ or his envoy assessed my wealth. I gathered my wealth for him, and he claimed that what was due from me was a one-year-old female camel, an animal with no milk and unfit for riding. I offered him a young, large she-camel for him to take, but he refused. Here she is, Messenger of Allah, I have brought her to you. Take her."The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to him, "That one-year-old camel is what is due from you. But if you give more voluntarily, Allah will reward you for it, and we will accept it from you."He said, "Here she is, Messenger of Allah. I have brought her to you, so take her."The Messenger of Allah ﷺ then ordered that she be received and prayed for blessing in his wealth.
حدثنا محمد بن منصور حدثنا يعقوب بن إبراهيم حدثنا أبي عن ابن إسحق قال حدثني عبد الله بن أبي بكر عن يحيى بن عبد الله بن عبد الرحمن بن سعد بن زرارة عن عمارة بن عمرو بن حزم
بعثني النبي ﷺ مصدقا فمررت برجل فلما جمع لي ماله لم أجد عليه فيه إلا ابنة مخاض فقلت له أد ابنة مخاض فإنها صدقتك فقال ذاك ما لا لبن فيه ولا ظهر ولكن هذه ناقة فتية عظيمة سمينة فخذها فقلت له ما أنا بآخذ ما لم أومر به وهذا رسول الله ﷺ منك قريب فإن أحببت أن تأتيه فتعرض عليه ما عرضت علي فافعل فإن قبله منك قبلته وإن رده عليك رددته قال فإني فاعل فخرج معي وخرج بالناقة التي عرض علي حتى قدمنا على رسول الله ﷺ فقال له يا نبي الله أتاني رسولك ليأخذ مني صدقة مالي وايم الله ما قام في مالي رسول الله ﷺ ولا رسوله قط قبله فجمعت له مالي فزعم أن ما علي فيه ابنة مخاض وذلك ما لا لبن فيه ولا ظهر وقد عرضت عليه ناقة فتية عظيمة ليأخذها فأبى علي وها هي ذه قد جئتك بها يا رسول الله خذها فقال له رسول الله ﷺ ذاك الذي عليك فإن تطوعت بخير آجرك الله فيه وقبلناه منك قال فها هي ذه يا رسول الله قد جئتك بها فخذها قال فأمر رسول الله ﷺ بقبضها ودعا له في ماله بالبركة
