A companion of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ reported that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ heard a man supplicating during his prayer without glorifying Allah the Exalted and without sending blessings upon the Prophet ﷺ. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "This man has been hasty."Then he called him over and said to him, or to someone else, "When any of you prays, let him begin by glorifying his Lord, the Mighty and Majestic, and praising Him, then send blessings upon the Prophet ﷺ, and after that supplicate for whatever he wishes."
حدثنا أحمد بن حنبل حدثنا عبد الله بن يزيد حدثنا حيوة أخبرني أبو هانئ حميد بن هانئ أن أبا علي عمرو بن مالك حدثه أنه سمع
صاحب رسول الله ﷺ يقول سمع رسول الله ﷺ رجلا يدعو في صلاته لم يمجد الله تعالى ولم يصل على النبي ﷺ فقال رسول الله ﷺ عجل هذا ثم دعاه فقال له أو لغيره إذا صلى أحدكم فليبدأ بتمجيد ربه جل وعز والثناء عليه ثم يصلي على النبي ﷺ ثم يدعو بعد بما شاء
[Its isnad is hasan] Tirmidhi collected it in the Book of Supplications, Chapter on the Obligation of Preceding Supplication with Praise, Glorification, and Blessings upon the Prophet ﷺ Before It (2000), hadith 3477, from the narration of Abdullah bin Yazid al-Muqri with this wording, and he said, hasan sahih. Ibn Khuzayma also graded it sahih, hadith 709, 710, as did Ibn Hibban, hadith 510, and Hakim, 1/230, 268, and Dhahabi.
