A man from the desert people asked the Prophet ﷺ about the night prayer. He gestured with his two fingers like this, indicating two by two, and the witr is a single rakah at the end of the night.

أن رجلا من أهل البادية سأل النبي ﷺ عن صلاة الليل فقال بأصبعيه هكذا مثنى مثنى والوتر ركعة من آخر الليل
