A man stood in prayer during the night and recited the Quran, raising his voice as he recited. In the morning, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "May Allah have mercy on so-and-so. How many verses he reminded me of tonight that I had let slip from memory."
حدثنا موسى بن إسمعيل حدثنا حماد عن هشام بن عروة عن عروة
أن رجلا قام من الليل فقرأ فرفع صوته بالقرآن فلما أصبح قال رسول الله ﷺ يرحم الله فلانا كأي من آية أذكرنيها الليلة كنت قد أسقطتها
Its isnad is sahih. Bayhaqi transmitted it: 3/12, from the hadith of Hammad bin Salama, with this chain. Bukhari, no. 2655, and Muslim, no. 788, also narrated it from the hadith of Hisham bin Urwa, with this chain.
