The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was in spiritual retreat in the mosque when he heard the people raising their voices in recitation. He drew back the curtain and said, "Each one of you is in private conversation with his Lord, so do not disturb one another, and do not raise your voices over one another in recitation," or he said, "in prayer."
حدثنا الحسن بن علي حدثنا عبد الرزاق أخبرنا معمر عن إسمعيل بن أمية عن أبي سلمة
اعتكف رسول الله ﷺ في المسجد فسمعهم يجهرون بالقراءة فكشف الستر وقال ألا إن كلكم مناج ربه فلا يؤذين بعضكم بعضا ولا يرفع بعضكم على بعض في القراءة أو قال في الصلاة
