Ali bin Abu Talib reported,

...on the pulpit of Kufa, saying, "When Friday comes, the devils set out with their banners to the marketplaces, throwing distractions and hindrances at people to keep them from the Friday prayer. The angels also set out and sit at the doors of the mosque, recording the man who comes in the first hour and the man who comes in the second hour, until the imam comes out.If a man sits in a place where he can hear and see clearly, then listens attentively and does not engage in idle talk, he receives a double share of reward. If he sits far away where he cannot hear, but still listens attentively and does not engage in idle talk, he receives a single share of reward. But if he sits in a place where he can hear and see clearly, yet engages in idle talk and does not listen, he receives a share of sin.Whoever says to his companion on Friday, 'Be quiet,' has engaged in idle talk, and whoever engages in idle talk gains nothing from that Friday prayer."Then at the end of this, he would say, "I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say this."

حدثنا إبراهيم بن موسى أخبرنا عيسى حدثنا عبد الرحمن بن يزيد بن جابر قال حدثني عطاء الخراساني عن مولى امرأته أم عثمان

قال سمعت عليا رضي الله عنه

على منبر الكوفة يقول إذا كان يوم الجمعة غدت الشياطين براياتها إلى الأسواق فيرمون الناس بالترابيث أو الربائث ويثبطونهم عن الجمعة وتغدو الملائكة فيجلسون على أبواب المسجد فيكتبون الرجل من ساعة والرجل من ساعتين حتى يخرج الإمام فإذا جلس الرجل مجلسا يستمكن فيه من الاستماع والنظر فأنصت ولم يلغ كان له كفلان من أجر فإن نأى وجلس حيث لا يسمع فأنصت ولم يلغ له كفل من أجر وإن جلس مجلسا يستمكن فيه من الاستماع والنظر فلغا ولم ينصت كان له كفل من وزر ومن قال يوم الجمعة لصاحبه صه فقد لغا ومن لغا فليس له في جمعته تلك شيء ثم يقول في آخر ذلك سمعت رسول الله ﷺ يقول ذلك
