The Prophet ﷺ granted a concession to the shepherds, allowing them to throw the pebbles on one day and skip the next.
حدثنا ابن أبي عمر حدثنا سفيان بن عيينة عن عبد الله بن أبي بكر بن محمد بن عمرو بن حزم عن أبيه
أن النبي ﷺ أرخص للرعاء أن يرموا يوما ويدعوا يوما
[Its isnad is sahih]. Ibn Majah narrated it in the chapter on excuses in Manasik, no. 3036, from the hadith of Sufyan bin Uyayna with the same wording, and he made clear it was heard directly, according to Humaydi, no. 856. Ibn Khuzayma graded it sahih, no. 2976. Ithaf Mahra, 6/383, no. 6678. Also Ibn Jarud, no. 478, and Ibn Hibban, no. 1015. Abu Dawud also narrated it, no. 1975, from the hadith of Abdullah bin Abu Bakr with the same wording.
