I asked, "Messenger of Allah, what should I do with any of the sacrificial animals that become injured along the way?"He replied, "Slaughter it, dip its sandal in its blood, then leave it for the people so they may eat from it."
Reference, its chain of transmission is sahih. It was also reported by Abu Dawud, in Hajj, in the chapter on the sacrificial animal when it is disabled before reaching its destination, hadith no. 1762, and by Ibn Majah, hadith no. 3106, both from the hadith of Hisham bin Urwa with the same wording. Ibn Khuzayma graded it sahih, hadith no. 2577, as did Ibn Hibban, hadith no. 976, and Hakim, 1/447, saying it meets the criteria of the two Shaykhs, and Dhahabi agreed with him.On this subject there is also a narration from Dhuayb Abu Qabisa al-Khuzai [Ibn Majah, hadith no. 3105, and Ibn Khuzayma, hadith no. 2578].
