The Messenger of Allah ﷺ vomited and broke his fast, then performed ablution. I met Thawban in the mosque of Damascus and mentioned this to him, and he said, "He spoke the truth. I myself poured the water for his ablution."
حدثنا أبو عبيدة بن أبي السفر وهو أحمد بن عبد الله الهمداني الكوفي وإسحق بن منصور قال أبو عبيدة حدثنا وقال إسحق أخبرنا عبد الصمد بن عبد الوارث حدثني أبي عن حسين المعلم عن يحيى بن أبي كثير قال حدثني عبد الرحمن بن عمرو الأوزاعي عن يعيش بن الوليد المخزومي عن أبيه عن معدان بن أبي طلحة
أن رسول الله ﷺ قاء فأفطر فتوضأ فلقيت ثوبان في مسجد دمشق فذكرت ذلك له فقال صدق أنا صببت له وضوءه
Its chain of transmission is hasan. Abu Dawud also reported it in the Book of Fasting, Chapter on the fasting person who deliberately induces vomiting, hadith 2381, from the hadith of Abdul-Warith bin Saeed through the same chain. Ibn Khuzayma graded it sahih, hadith 1956, as did Ibn Jarud, hadith 8, and Ibn Hibban, hadith 908, and Ibn Manda. Al-Hakim ruled it met the standard of the two Shaykhs, 1/426, and Dhahabi agreed with him!The hadith of Maamar was reported by Ahmad, 6/449.
