The Prophet ﷺ used to perform ablution for every prayer. In the year of the Conquest, however, he prayed all the prayers with a single ablution and wiped over his leather socks.Umar said to him, "You have done something you never used to do."He replied, "I did it deliberately."
Muslim also narrated it in "the Book of Purification, Chapter on the Permissibility of Performing All Prayers with a Single Wudu," hadith 277, from the hadith of Sufyan Thawri, by this same route. The hadith of Afriqi has already been mentioned as number 59.There is also a narration on this subject from Jabir bin Abdullah [Ibn Majah, hadith 511].
