[Sahih]. Abu Dawud also narrated it in the Book of Purification, chapter on the man who accepts Islam and is commanded to perform ghusl, 355, from the hadith of Sufyan Thawri with the same chain, explicitly stating that he heard it directly. Ibn Khuzayma graded it sahih, no. 254, 255, as did Ibn Hibban, no. 234, and Ibn Jarud, no. 14, and others. Its chain is hasan, and Baghawi and Nawawi graded it hasan. The hadith has corroborating narrations in Bukhari and Muslim and others.There is also a narration on this subject from Abu Hurairah [Ahmad, 2/304, its basic content being agreed upon by Bukhari and Muslim].
