I traveled with the Prophet ﷺ, Abu Bakr, Umar, and Uthman, and they would pray Zuhr and Asr as two units each, without praying anything before or after them.Abdullah said, "Had I been one to pray before or after it, I would have completed it as four units."

سافرت مع النبي ﷺ وأبي بكر وعمر وعثمان فكانوا يصلون الظهر والعصر ركعتين ركعتين لا يصلون قبلها ولا بعدها وقال عبد الله لو كنت مصليا قبلها أو بعدها لأتممتها
[Its isnad is hasan]. Ibn Khuzayma, no. 947, also reported it from the hadith of Abdul-Wahhab through the same route, and it has many corroborating narrations.On this subject there are also narrations from Umar [Muslim, no. 686], Ali [Bazzar, Kashf (1/328, no. 681)], Ibn Abbas [to come, 547], Anas [to come, 546], Imran bin Husayn [to come, 545], and Ayesha [Muslim, no. 685, and Bukhari, no. 350].The hadith of Atiya was reported by Tirmidhi, nos. 551 and 552, and the hadith stating that she used to complete the prayer in full, etc., was reported by Nasai, 3/122, no. 1457, and its chain is sahih.
