Whenever the Prophet ﷺ prayed the two units before the dawn prayer, if he had something to discuss with me he would speak to me, otherwise he would go out to the prayer.

كان النبي ﷺ إذا صلى ركعتي الفجر فإن كانت له إلي حاجة كلمني وإلا خرج إلى الصلاة

[Its isnad is sahih]. Abu Dawud also reported it in Kitab al-Tatawwu, Bab al-Idtijaa Badaha, Hadith 1262, from the hadith of Malik through the same route. Bukhari also reported it, Hadith 1119, and Muslim, Hadith 743, from the hadith of Salim Abu Nadr through the same route.
