An Arabi presented a young she-camel as a gift to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and he gave him six young she-camels in return, but the man remained displeased. News of this reached the Prophet ﷺ, so he praised Allah and extolled Him, then said, "So-and-so gave me a she-camel as a gift, and I gave him six young she-camels in return, yet he remains displeased. I have resolved not to accept a gift except from a Qurashi, an Ansari, a Thaqafi, or a Dawsi."The hadith contains more than this.
[Its isnad is hasan] Nasai narrated it: 6/280, no. 2790, from the hadith of Saeed Maqburi through the same route. Hakim graded it sahih according to the criterion of Muslim: 62/2, 63, and Dhahabi agreed with him. It has corroborating narrations in Ibn Hibban, no. 1145, 1146, and elsewhere.
