The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to Mecca, "What a wonderful land you are, and how dear you are to me. Had my people not driven me out of you, I would never have settled anywhere else."

قال رسول الله ﷺ لمكة ما أطيبك من بلد وأحبك إلي ولولا أن قومي أخرجوني منك ما سكنت غيرك
Sourcing, hasan. Ibn Hibban narrated it, no. 1026, from the hadith of Fudayl bin Sulayman through the same route, and Hakim graded it sahih, 1/486, and Dhahabi agreed with him. The hadith has corroborating narrations found in Abu Yaala, 5/69, no. 2662, and elsewhere.
