A freed slave-woman of his came to him and said, "Times have grown hard for me, and I wish to leave for Iraq."He replied, "Why not to Sham, the land of the gathering? Be patient, foolish woman, for I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, 'Whoever endures its hardship and its difficulty, I will be a witness or an intercessor for him on the Day of Resurrection.'"
حدثنا محمد بن عبد الأعلى حدثنا المعتمر بن سليمان قال سمعت عبيد الله بن عمر عن نافع
أن مولاة له أتته فقالت اشتد علي الزمان وإني أريد أن أخرج إلى العراق قال فهلا إلى الشام أرض المنشر اصبري لكاع فإني سمعت رسول الله ﷺ يقول من صبر على شدتها ولأوائها كنت له شهيدا أو شفيعا يوم القيامة
Muslim also narrated it in the Book of Hajj, Chapter on Encouragement to Reside in Madinah and to Bear Patiently Its Hardship and Severity, hadith 1377, from the hadith of Nafi through this route.
