The Messenger of Allah ﷺ gathered a group of the Ansar and asked, "Is there anyone among you who is not from your tribe?"They replied, "No, except the son of our sister."The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "The son of a people's sister is one of them." Then he said, "The Quraysh have only recently left the time of ignorance and have just emerged from hardship, and I wanted to mend their hearts and win them over. Are you not pleased that the people return with worldly goods while you return to your homes with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ?"They replied, "Yes indeed."The Messenger of Allah ﷺ then said, "If the people were to travel through one valley or mountain pass and the Ansar through another, I would travel through the valley or pass of the Ansar."
حدثنا محمد بن بشار قال حدثنا محمد بن جعفر حدثنا شعبة قال سمعت قتادة
جمع رسول الله ﷺ ناسا من الأنصار فقال هل فيكم أحد من غيركم قالوا لا إلا ابن أخت لنا فقال ﷺ إن ابن أخت القوم منهم ثم قال إن قريشا حديث عهدهم بجاهلية ومصيبة وإني أردت أن أجبرهم وأتألفهم أما ترضون أن يرجع الناس بالدنيا وترجعون برسول الله ﷺ إلى بيوتكم قالوا بلى فقال رسول الله ﷺ لو سلك الناس واديا أو شعبا وسلكت الأنصار واديا أو شعبا لسلكت وادي الأنصار أو شعبهم
Agreed upon [by Bukhari and Muslim]. Bukhari narrated it in the Book of Military Expeditions, chapter on the Battle of Taif in Shawwal of the eighth year, hadith no. 4334, and Muslim, hadith no. 1059, both from Muhammad bin Bashshar through the same chain.
