The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Let none of you convey to me anything about any of my companions, for I love to come out to them with a clear heart."Abdullah said, Some wealth was brought to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and he distributed it. I came upon two men sitting together, and they were saying, "By Allah, Muhammad did not intend by this distribution the face of Allah nor the abode of the Hereafter."I paused when I heard them, then went to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and told him. His face turned red and he said, "Leave me be. Musa was harmed with more than this, yet he was patient."
Its isnad is daif. Abu Dawud narrated it in the Book of Manners, chapter on relating what happens in a gathering, hadith 4860, from Muhammad bin Yahya, with the same wording. Israil heard it from Suddi from him. (Sharh al-Sunnah 13/148, hadith 3571, and the following hadith). Walid bin Abu Hisham is mastur (Taqrib), and Zayd bin Zaidah was only deemed reliable by Ibn Hibban.
