Abdul-Rahman bin Yazid reported,

We came to Hudhayfah and said, "Tell us about the person closest to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ in guidance, manner, and conduct, so we may learn from him and listen to him."He replied, "The closest of people in guidance, manner, and demeanor to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was Ibn Masud, until he would disappear from our sight into his home. Indeed, the well-informed among the companions of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ knew that Ibn Umm Abd was among the closest of them to Allah in nearness."He said, "This is a good and authentic hadith."

حدثنا محمد بن بشار حدثنا عبد الرحمن بن مهدي حدثنا إسرائيل عن أبي إسحق

عن عبد الرحمن بن يزيد قال

أتينا على حذيفة فقلنا حدثنا من أقرب الناس من رسول الله ﷺ هديا ودلا فنأخذ عنه ونسمع منه قال كان أقرب الناس هديا ودلا وسمتا برسول الله ﷺ ابن مسعود حتى يتوارى منا في بيته ولقد علم المحفوظون من أصحاب رسول الله ﷺ أن ابن أم عبد هو من أقربهم إلى الله زلفى قال هذا حديث حسن صحيح
